2018 Season will bring two new UVA Ballplayers to Tom Sox

The Charlottesville Tom Sox are excited to introduce both Will Allocca and Jalen Harrison to the team for the 2018 summer season. Each is a sophomore at the University of Virginia and excited to play in front of “home” crowds here in Charlottesville this summer. Allocca has played the last 2 summers in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League up in New York (he was a 2017 All Star game selection) and Harrison played in the Northwoods League in Wisconsin last summer.

A 6’0 200 pound catcher/utility player, Will Allocca led his high school team, Collegiate (Richmond, VA) to the state baseball championship and prep league title his senior year. For the Cavaliers, he has played all over the field…catcher, outfield, 1st base.  Similar to our bevy of Richmond based players last year, Allocca likes the idea of staying in the area, close to family and friends in 2018.  On what he needs to improve on, his answer was straight to the point, “My approach at the plate. It will give me the best chance to put a good swing on ball from at-bat to at-bat.” On expectations for his spring season with UVA, “I’m expecting big things from our team. We have a good group of veteran guys, a top recruiting class of 1st years, and a great coaching staff leading the way.”

Jalen Harrison is a 6’3 210 pound outfielder who has spent a majority of his late teenage years in Charlottesville after attending St.Anne’s Belfield School, a quick 2 minute ride away to his Virginia’s Davenport field. Offensively, he is an explosive athlete with quick bat speed and power. Interesting note: Harrison homered for his first career hit on March 4 vs. La Salle. The Tom Sox organization sees his addition to the organization as a double bonus, as he will have local interest from both his high school and college years.

The Charlottesville Tom Sox are ecstatic to bring these two players into a championship organization that not only strives to develop talented ball-players but community-driven individuals as well. From GM Jeff Burton, “as always, the UVA guys get our organization and our community really excited. They bring talent and familiar faces, yes, but they also bring a work ethic and professionalism that UVA coaches demand, and that we know our own Coach Hunt favors.  Some of the UVA guys have tremendous experience, while others are still biding their time.  We will see how things unfold for Will and Jalen come Spring, but we’ve watched these guys grow in front of our eyes and we like what we see.

Welcome to the team, Will and Jalen!
