Daily Progress – June 25 – Charlottesville Tom Sox edge visiting Generals, 3-2

Seven different Charlottesville Tom Sox players notched at least one hit in the team’s 3-2 triumph over Waynesboro on Sunday night.

With the win, Charlottesville (12-5) remains atop of the VBL South Division standings. The Tom Sox improved to 3-0 on the season against the rival Generals. Six of the 15 all-time meetings between Charlottesville and the Generals have been decided by one run.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Trailing 2-1 early, the Tom Sox scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and held on late for the win.

Vinnie Pasquantino stretched his hitting-streak to 10 games. The ODU product blasted two hits and batted in a run. Michael Wielinsky notched a hit for the 16th time in 17 games. Kyle Battle recorded multiple hits for the seventh time this summer. 

The Charlottesville defense turned a pair of double plays, which thwarted Waynesboro threats in the first two innings.

Righty Rick Spiers earned the win, improving to 2-0 on the season. Spiers struck out seven batters and allowed just two hits in 3 2/3 innings of relief. Joe Burris earned the save.

The Charlottesville Tom Sox will host two-time defending VBL Champion Strasburg on Tuesday night.
