The Charlottesville Tom Sox advanced to their first VBL championship series in the franchise’s third season, running their overall record to 36-10 with a 3-2 victory at Waynesboro.
The Tom Sox await the winner of Winchester and Strasburg in the Valley Baseball League Championship Series. The Championship Series will begin at C-VILLE Weekly Ballpark on either Friday or Saturday night.
Cole Migliorini broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the fifth with a leadoff home run. The Tom Sox made it 3-1 in the next frame when Kyle Battle singled in Vinnie Pasquantino. Waynesboro cut the two-run deficit in half on a Patrick Cromwell RBI single.
Dakota Robbins was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the ninth to get the tying run on base, and Jason Bush fouled off five balls with the Generals on their last strike before finally going down to end the game.
Battle was 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Tom Sox. Charlottesville, who will now have 2-3 days off before the finals to rest pitchers, got six innings with one earned run from starter Rick Spiers and a three-inning save from Bobby Hearn.
