Charlottesville Tom Sox Defeats Purcellville Cannons Despite Allowing 3-Run Inning

Despite allowing three runs in the first inning, Charlottesville Tom Sox defeated Purcellville Cannons 5-3 on Thursday. Purcellville Cannons scored its runs on a home run by Trevin Esquerra.

Purcellville Cannons took an early lead in the first inning. Trevin Esquerra homered on a 2-0 count in the first inning, scoring three runs.

Charlottesville Tom Sox took the lead for good with three runs in the third inning. In the third Rick Spiers singled off of Alex London, driving in one run, Kennan Bell doubled off of London, driving in one run, and Brandon Johnson singled off of London, driving in one run.

Sean McCracken earned the win for Charlottesville Tom Sox. He went six innings, allowing three runs, four hits, striking out five, and walking one. Joe Burris recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Charlottesville Tom Sox. London took the loss for Purcellville Cannons. He threw four and a third innings, giving up five runs, ten hits, striking out three, and walking one.

Charlottesville Tom Sox had 12 hits in the game. Steven Carpenter, Johnson, Bell, and Spiers each collected multiple hits for Charlottesville Tom Sox. Johnson and Carpenter each managed three hits to lead Charlottesville Tom Sox. Charlottesville Tom Sox didn’t commit a single error in the field. Johnson had six chances in the field, the most on the team.

Esquerra led Purcellville Cannons with three runs batted in. He went 1-for-3 on the day. Purcellville Cannons was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Onassis Matos had the most chances in the field with six.
