Charlottesville- Seven different Charlottesville Tom Sox players notched at least one hit in the team’s 3-2 triumph over Waynesboro on Sunday night.
With the win, Charlottesville (12-5) remains atop of the VBL South Division standings.
The Tom Sox improved to 3-0 on the season against the rival Generals. Six of the 15 all-time meetings between Charlottesville and the Generals have been decided by one run.
Trailing 2-1 early, the Tom Sox scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and held on late for the win.
Vinnie Pasquantino (Old Dominion) stretched his hitting-streak to 10 games. The ODU product blasted two hits and batted in a run.
Michael Wielinsky (Wooster) notched a hit for the 16th time in 17 games.
Kyle Battle (Old Dominion) recorded multiple hits for the seventh time this summer.
The Charlottesville defense turned a pair of double plays, which thwarted Waynesboro threats in the first two innings.
RHP Rick Spiers (Randolph Macon) earned the win, improving to 2-0 on the season. Spiers struck out seven batters and allowed just two hits in 3.2 innings of relief.
Joe Burris (Christopher Newport via Albemarle High School) earned the save.
The Charlottesville Tom Sox will host two-time defending VBL Champion Strasburg on Tuesday night.
