Charlottesville- The Charlottesville Tom Sox blanked the visiting Winchester Royals 6-0 on Thursday night.
The Tom Sox (15-5) have won a franchise-record five games in a row.
Charlottesville has equalled its win total from the 2016 season.
The shutout was The Tom Sox’ second of the 2017 campaign, and the seventh in franchise history.
The Charlottesville pitching staff allowed just four hits on the night.
Starter Justin Sorokoswki improved to 2-0 on the season. The FSU product struck out four batters and allowed just three hits in six innings pitched.
RHP Layne Looney (Richmond) struck out five Royals and allowed just one hit in three innings of relief work.
Vinnie Pasquantino (Old Dominion) stretched his hitting-streak to 13 games. Pasquantinio notched two hits, two runs, and one RBI. The ODU Monarch has tied Michael Wielansky for the longest hitting-streak of the season, and is four games shy of matching Dupree Hart’s franchise-record.
VBL hit-leader, Wielansky (Wooster) went 2-of-2 from the plate in a relief appearance. Wielansky blasted two doubles, while scoring a run and batting in another.
Kyle Battle (Old Dominion) and Stephen Carpenter (VCU) each extended their respective hitting-streaks to four games.
The Royals committed five errors in the losing effort.
The Valley Baseball League South Division-leading Tom Sox will travel to face the VBL North Division-leading Purcellville Cannons on Friday night.
