The Tom Sox are excited to welcome back Salisbury junior infielder Jack Barry to our 2018 ball club. The 6’2; 215 pounder from Laurel, MD will be familiar to our fans who followed us in our march to the 2017 VBL Championship.
During the spring 2017 season for Salisbury, Barry hit .333 with 12 HRs; 49 RBIs; and 54 Runs Scored. He was named to the D3Baseball South All Region First Team; ABCA/Rawlings South All Region Second Team; All-ECAC First Team; All-CAC First Team.
This past summer, Barry played his 2nd season in the Cal Ripken League. He was an Honorable Mention All-CRCBL infield selection after batting .250; 2 HRs; 11 RBIs for the Rockville Express. He also threw 7.2 innings and had a 0.00 ERA.
He joined the Tom Sox at the end of the regular season and made valuable contributions at both 3rd base and catcher. In game 2 of the Championship Series while filling in at the catcher position for our injured starter, he doubled down the line to drive in the first 2 runs of the ballgame. It was a huge moment that helped propel us to victory in a must win game.
Barry said “When I got asked to come back to Charlottesville, it was a no brainer for me. The town itself, along with an ideal atmosphere for summer baseball, make this to the premier place to play elite level baseball. Also, we have a tremendous opportunity to defend our Valley League title. I couldn’t be more excited.”
According to Tom Sox GM Jeff Burton “Jack Barry was a huge late season piece of our championship run in 2017. He loved this town; the culture of our ball club; the coaching staff; the care and compassion our players had for one another. He fits the mold of players we are looking for… a team first, talented, drive individual who shows up with no sense of entitlement, but rather, just goes about his business. We are excited to have him back in this town in 2018 and are excited to see what he accomplishes both on the field and off.”
Barry will do an internship with CBS 19/Newplex/Damon Dillman while here this coming summer. Welcome back to Charlottesville, Jack Barry.
