The 2018 Charlottesville Tom Sox are excited to announce the signing of Wofford College sophomore RHP Jake Hershman. Hershman is from Dakula, GA and went to Hebron Christian Academy.
The 6’1″, 170 pounder should have a big role on the Terriers pitching staff, alongside 2017 Tom Sox LHP Austin Higginbotham and backed up by SS Alex Malsch.
In his freshman season at Wofford, Hershman made 16 appearances; threw 21.1 IP; had 18 Ks and only walked 5.
Jake had this to say about signing with the Tom Sox: “What excites me about playing in Charlottesville next summer is the winning mentality throughout the organization and the dedication of the coaches and staff to develop and win. From what I can tell, this is a unique organization in summer baseball circles.”
Hershman pitched in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League in Summer 2017. In 11 appearances, he made 8 starts; threw 49 innings; and struck out 56 to lead the league.
From Tom Sox GM Jeff Burton: “Jake Hershman was one of the first guys we signed. He had just completed an awesome summer up in the PGCBL. We love the Wofford program and Assistant Coach JT McGuire knows his stuff and is committed to working hard to find us a great Charlottesville fit. We believe we have that in Jake. He’s a quality young man; high character; dynamic arm; and will have tons of experience when he shows up in June. I personally think he will be a huge part of our rotation.”
