NewsPlex – July 7 – Burris Named All-Star

Make that seven all-stars for the Tom Sox this season. Charlottesville reliever and Albemarle High School alum Joe Burris was named a replacement all-star by the Valley Baseball League Friday night.

In nine appearances this season, Burris is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA. He has nine strikeouts and two saves, while only allowing three base runners, all on hits.

For the second straight week, the Tom Sox sit at number five in the CollegiateSummerBaseball.com rankings.

Charlottesville has the best record in the Valley League, and is now the only team from the league in the national rankings. Purcellville was ranked 27th last week.

The Tom Sox have scored more runs, more hits and the highest batting average (.294) in the league. Charlottesville also has the lowest ERA in the league (2.91).

Friday night’s game at Purcellville, a matchup of the top two teams in the Valley League was postponed.
