Tom Sox Capitalized on Early Waynesboro Errors, Win Convincingly 11-1

The Tom Sox were able to capitalize on five Waynesboro errors in the early innings to win 11-1. Dom D’Alessandro added 3 hits while Zac Ching drove in three runs. Kirby McMullen dazzled with five solid innings out of the pen in Kyle Nicolas’s last start of the summer.

            Charlottesville welcomed the Generals to C-Ville Weekly Ballpark with a bang in the bottom of the first inning. Anthony Lazar reach on an error at third base and Zac Ching walked to put two on and no outs. Dom D’Alessandro brought in the first run of the contest on an RBI-Double and Nick Bellafronto doubled the lead with an RBI-groundout to third. Kyle Nicolas, who was making his final start of the season for the Tom Sox had an easy first inning of work and cruised through the second with an early lead.

            In the bottom of the second, Charlottesville exploded for six more runs and six hits. Eleven batters came to the plate in the inning beginning with a leadoff single by Jack Morris. Lazar brought in a run on a double, meanwhile Ching and D’Alessandro each singled in runners as well. Nick Oar, Will Allocca, and Morris each drove in runs to make it an 8-0 advantage for the Tom Sox.

            Nicolas went back out for the third but only threw four pitches before the trainers removed him from the ballgame. Kirby McMullen was forced into action in relief but dazzled with five strong innings. Charlottesville went back on the attack in the bottom of the fourth inning. Allocca got the inning started by reaching on the fourth error of the night by Waynesboro. After a Jalen Harrison walk, the Generals shortstop made his second error of the inning which allowed Morris to reach and load the bases with no outs. Lazar picked up his second RBI of the night on a sac-fly to rightfield to increase the margin to 9-0. Ching cashed in again by bringing home the final two runs of the night for Charlottesville making it an 11-0 lead.

            Waynesboro was able to make a small blemish on the line score of McMullen on a solo homerun to leftfield by Bryce Teodosio to make it the final score of 11-1. Niko Jenkins also provided an inning of clean relief in the win. Antonio Menendez came on and closed the game out with a strong ninth inning.

            Kirby McMullen earned his first win of the summer to move to 1-1 on the season. For Waynesboro, starter Evan Gillespie went just one inning and picked up the loss to move to 2-1 on the summer. Charlottesville will enjoy an off-day tomorrow before hosting the Winchester Royals at C-Ville Weekly Ballpark on Monday night at 7pm! The Generals will head to Front Royal for a Sunday Night Baseball contest with the Cardinals. First pitch is scheduled for 7pm.
