NewsPlex – Tom Sox open season on Friday

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (NEWSPLEX) — The Charlottesville Tom Sox open their season on Friday at Covington facing the Lumberjacks.

The Tom Sox practiced on Wednesday afternoon in the rain, introducing themselves while trying to gel together before Friday’s game.

A good chunk of the players are still with their college baseball teams playing in the NCAA tournament.

The players who are already in Charlottesville say they’re working now to make sure the players who have yet to come have a smooth transition into the program.

“We’re just kind of trying to get to know who is here right now,” said Tom Sox infielder, Vinnie Pasquantino. We are really not sure what we are missing at this point. We’ll find out Friday that is for sure. We want to show that we can win with who is here now and that the guys coming will just be a part of it, not the entire team. It’s important to show that we are a good team without the guys that are here right now.”

“Just trying to come out here and have fun,” said Tom Sox infielder, Bryce Windham. “Do our jobs. Get ready to work every day. It’s really just trying to get better so that when those guys come they have pretty big shoes to fill, hopefully. I’ve heard a lot of great things about the Tom Sox, another beautiful summer playing baseball.”
