CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – As the Tom Sox put up eight runs in the bottom of the second inning, Lucas Cash (Bridgewater) backed up the bats with a shutout performance on Wednesday night.

Cash held up his end of the bargain on the mound as the Tom Sox defeated the Harrisonburg Turks, 10-0 in seven innings to move to a half a game out of the fourth playoff spot in the South division.

It was the first time a ‘Sox pitcher tossed a complete game in any form since Mark Perkins did so on July 23, 2023, against the Winchester Royals.

Cash also recorded his second quality start of 2026 and is the only Tom Sox pitcher to have one this season, with his first coming in the home opener loss to the Woodstock River Bandits on May 31.

After a quiet exchange of opening frames, the ‘Sox blew the game open in the home half of the second.

The eight-run barrage started with back-to-back singles from Luke Craddock and Brayden Bachman (East Carolina), good for their fifth RBIs on the season, to make it a 2-0 ballgame.

Will Yow (Virginia) then drew a walk to load the bases, leading to Xavier McCoury (Liberty) to reach first via the free pass as well to extend the lead to three and force an early pitching change.

Following an RBI sac fly from Tommy Landsnes to make it a 4-0 lead, Grayson McCollum (Kennesaw State) knocked in two more runs on a single past the diving glove of Harrisonburg second baseman Trey Miranda.

Dom Cafferillo (Georgetown) extended his team-leading eight-game on-base streak with a bases-loaded walk to put the ‘Sox up 7-0.

Cafferillo also caught his seventh runner stealing of 2026 tonight, which is tied for the most by a catcher in the Valley League.

Two Harrisonburg pitching changes later, the inning finally ended after a lineout, but not before the Tom Sox tacked on another run with a walk. The ‘Sox walked five straight times with two outs, as 14 batters came to the plate in the frame.

The Tom Sox broke its season-high in a single game in walks drawn with 12.

The eight runs for the Tom Sox were the most in an inning for the squad since June 10 against the Waynesboro Generals and the most in a win this year.

All ‘Sox batters reached base in the game, which is the fourth time the team has done so this season and the first since June 18 in a 14-4 win over the New Market Rebels.

A throwing error on the pickoff attempt to first scored Yow from third base to make it a 9-0 lead for the Tom Sox in the bottom of the third inning.

McCollum drove a ball up the middle through the Turks’ infield-in shift for an RBI single to extend the lead to 10-0 in the frame. He now has 14 runs batted in this summer, as he continues to lead the ‘Sox in that category.

It was smooth sailing from there as Cash locked it down on the mound with soft contact, though the punctuation mark on the game came from a swinging strikeout.

CHO Airport Field recorded its highest attendance of the year at 222, and it was the most in a regular season game since June 1, 2025, against the Woodstock River Bandits.

“Feels great,” Cash said regarding how it felt to get the job done in front of that crowd. “I love showing out for the home crowd [and] it means a lot for them to come out and support us on a Wednesday night.”

UP NEXT: The Tom Sox (8-11) will travel to face the Staunton Braves (14-5) on Thursday. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. EST.
