Charlottesville, Va. - The Tom Sox had a 4-2 lead at the conclusion of the fourth inning, but were unable to keep the bats hot as the Waynesboro Generals would end the game early, winning 14-4 in eight innings.

A Christian Dewey (George Washington) single kick-started a hot ‘Sox run in the bottom of the fourth. Dom Cafferillo (Georgetown) brought in the game-tying run after being hit by a pitch, making the score 2-2.

After that, Xavier McCoury (Liberty) tacked on two more runs with a 2-RBI single, making the score 4-2 in favor of Charlottesville.

Tanner Craytor (Sewanee) continued his strong start to the season with a leadoff double in the bottom of the first. This double extended the freshman’s hitting streak to four games to begin the 2026 campaign.

After the bottom of the fourth, the ‘Sox were unable to get their bats to connect to Waynesboro’s pitches. Charlottesville was held to just one hit for the remaining four innings of play, and the Generals took full advantage.

The start of the game was difficult to navigate for General batters. Henry Knighton (George Washington) got the start for the ‘Sox and performed highly through three innings. The sophomore pitched four strikeouts and allowed just one earned run in his time on the mound.

Waynesboro scored 12 runs in the remaining four innings of the contest, and promptly put the game out of reach for the Tom Sox. The dagger for the Generals came in the seventh inning when Brice Abbott struck gold with a 2-RBI double to extend the visitors’ lead to seven.

Despite Luke Craddock’s (East Carolina) single to begin the eighth, the ‘Sox couldn’t muster up a comeback and fell to Waynesboro 14-4 after eight innings.

Up Next: The Charlottesville Tom Sox (0-5) are back at CHO Airport Field on Friday night as they host the Harrisonburg Turks (2-3). The Turks fell to the North-leading New Market Rebels, 10-6 on Thursday. Both teams look to bounce back from tough losses as the ‘Sox and the Turks are set to begin play at 7:00 p.m on Friday.
