‘Sox Stat Fax: July 15
By: Bryan Portney
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – With one week to go in the 2026 regular season, the ‘Sox have been tearing it up on the diamond.
The numbers back that up in more ways than one. Check out the latest trends, advanced stats and category leaders in this edition of ‘Sox Stat Fax.
WALK THIS WAY
Patience at the plate has continued to be the motto in Charlottesville, as the ‘Sox are now third in the Valley League with a 15.5 percent walk rate.
The Tom Sox had back-to-back games with double-digit walks, good for the squad’s first time since July 28–29, 2024 in the Valley League playoffs, in their wins against the Strasburg Express on Thursday and the Staunton Braves on Saturday.
Just last week, the ‘Sox posted a .422 on-base percentage, ranking third in the Valley League in that stretch. Harrison Campi (Wofford) was among the top contributors to that number with six walks.
CAN’T BEAT THE STREAK
Tommy Landsnes has now extended his on-base streak to 20, which continues to lead the ‘Sox. Since the streak began on June 17, Landsnes has gotten on base at a .427 clip.
Caiden Combs (Auburn) now has a 13-game on-base streak, but the highlight of last week for him was in the form of a two-home run game in the 8-to-4 win over the Covington Lumberjacks on Monday night.
Aiden Harris (VCU) keeps swinging a hot bat, as he now rides a team-leading five-game hitting streak into next week and is 7-for-19 at the plate during this stretch.
SWIPER, NO SWIPING
The ‘Sox put on a clinic on the base paths last week, stealing 16 bases and being caught only once. That amounts to a .941 clip, which was tied for the highest in the Valley League in that stretch.
With the fantastic week, the Tom Sox have jumped to third in the league in stolen bases (98) and are now 3-1 when stealing six or more bases in a game.
Ben Cardone (VMI) leads all Valley League catchers in stolen bases with 10. Behind the plate, Cardone threw out a season-high three runners on the base paths on Monday night and leads all ‘Sox catchers this season with nine.
IN THE HUNT
With four games to go, the magic number for the Tom Sox to clinch a playoff berth is now 2 thanks to the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Harrisonburg Turks.
The ‘Sox have a one-game advantage over the fourth-place Culpeper Cavaliers as of Tuesday morning, meaning the squad would most likely play the Staunton Braves in the first round of the playoffs.
Four teams from each division make the Valley League playoffs, with each matchup being decided by a best-of-three series. The playoffs begin next Tuesday (July 21) for the North and South divisions.
UP NEXT
The Tom Sox will be back in action on Wednesday against the Culpeper Cavaliers at home with a chance to clinch another crucial head-to-head tiebreaker. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
