NOTE: This edition of ‘Sox Stat Fax was written before tonight’s Valley League contest between the New Market Rebels and the Strasburg Express and therefore does not factor that game into account.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – As the 2026 regular season comes to a close, the ‘Sox have been tearing it up on the diamond.
The numbers back that up in more ways than one. Check out the latest trends, advanced stats and category leaders in this edition of ‘Sox Stat Fax.
PATIENCE AT THE PLATE
The ‘Sox continue to climb the stats leaderboards as they are now second in the Valley League in walks (229).
Last week, the Tom Sox had the highest walk rate (18.3 percent) of any team in the Valley League, earning 33 free passes in 180 plate appearances.
Five ‘Sox hitters have walk rates of 20 percent or higher, and the leader of that is Harrison Campi (Wofford) who has 10 walks in 35 plate appearances (28.6 percent).
LANDSNES LEADS THE PACK
It’s a new week, which means Tommy Landsnes has extended his on-base streak again.
He has now reached base in 24 consecutive games and has been on base in 32 of 35 games this season. Landsnes also played in all but one Tom Sox game during the regular season, leading the team.
Brayden Bachman (East Carolina) and Aiden Harris (VCU) have been right behind Landsnes with on-base streaks of 12 and 9, respectively.
MOUND MAGIC
It’s a full-circle moment for the Tom Sox pitching staff as they post the second-lowest ERA (4.69) in the Valley League at the conclusion of the regular season as they were once tied for the third-highest clip.
Moreover, the staff has held opposing batters to the lowest OPS (.687) out of any team, with a league-second .238 opponent batting average to boot.
Evan Alwine is one of four ‘Sox pitchers with 15 or more innings pitched and a sub-4.00 ERA, holding a 2.25 clip over 36 innings of work.
HOW THE ‘SOX STACK UP IN THE PLAYOFFS
In the franchise’s 11-year history, the Tom Sox have been one of the most successful teams with four Valley League championships in seven appearances.
With the league moving to a best-of-three format for all three rounds, it’s important to note that the ‘Sox are 9-1 in Game 3s in their franchise history. The lone loss was in the 2025 VBL Championship series against the Strasburg Express.
The ‘Sox are 24-8 in home playoff games as well, having clinched two of their four league titles in Charlottesville.
UP NEXT
The Tom Sox (19-17) will start their 2026 postseason in the VBL South semifinals when they face the Staunton Braves (22-14). The first game will be on the road on Tuesday, with first pitch set for 7:30 p.m. The second game will be at home, with first pitch set for 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to purchase a “white out” t-shirt for Game 2, which will be available at the merch tent.
