Six Former 'Sox Set to Compete in Omaha
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Charlottesville Tom Sox are represented by former players on half of the teams in the NCAA Men’s College World Series tournament.
Six players combined from the 2025, 2024, 2023 and 2022 squads will compete for an opportunity to be crowned a national champion of college baseball.
Ryan Wynn, INF, Georgia, ‘Sox class of 2024
After a phenomenal year at Wofford in 2025, Wynn chose to enter the transfer portal. Now a season later, he finds himself as a key piece on the red-hot Georgia Bulldogs roster.
Wynn has started only 25 games this season, but has turned it on as the calendar flipped over from late May into early June.
The junior slugged three homers in the Athens regional, including two in a game against Long Island. He had two hits in game one against Mississippi State in the super regional and notched an RBI in game two as Georgia swept its way to Omaha.
Hayden Smith, LHP, Troy, ‘Sox class of 2023
Much like Wynn, Smith transferred into a program and has been a big part of helping his new squad reach the College World Series.
The lefty has thrown 49 innings across the year for the Trojans, pitching to the tune of a 2.94 ERA across the season.
Perhaps his biggest outing came in the final game of Troy’s regional against Florida. Smith tossed four innings, holding Gators batters to only three hits and one run. This propelled Troy to a super regional, where they would be victorious over fellow underdog Little Rock.
Tristan Bisetta, OF, Ole Miss, ‘Sox class of 2022
A multi-year veteran of power five baseball, Bisetta will be a part of the Rebels’ squad as they look for another national title.
Bisetta was excellent as a power outfield bat for Ole Miss throughout the season, clubbing 23 home runs and bringing across 61 RBI’s. The latest of those 23 came against Auburn in game two of the super regional.
He figures to be a big part of the equation for Ole Miss as he has all season long.
Perry Hargett, Lee Sowers and Tim Lawson, OF, INF, RHP, North Carolina, ‘Sox Class of 2025
The largest contingent of former Tom Sox players comes by way of Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Hargett, Sowers and Lawson each played key roles in the 2025 VBL South Championship, and they have the opportunity to become national champs with the Tar Heels.
The CWS gets underway today at 2 p.m. when Smith and Troy take on the West Virginia Mountaineers. Best of luck to all of the former ‘Sox players competing for a chance at the ultimate prize.
