Three Tom Sox Selected to VBL All-Star Team
CHARLOTTESVILLE - Va. - Three Tom Sox players have been selected to represent the Valley Baseball League in the inter-league showcase game against the Cal Ripken League.
Brandon Dahlman (Liberty) and Lucas Cash (Bridgewater) made the roster as starters. Evan Alwine was selected as an alternate.
Brandon Dahlman arrived a week into the season for the 'Sox, but has quickly showcased his skill as one of the best arms in the Valley League. The righty has tossed 16.1 innings on the campaign, striking out 32 batters, which ranks him second in the Valley. He has only allowed 2 earned runs this season across his six total appearances.
Lucas Cash became one of the first graduate players in the league after the rule change allowed college grads to play for Valley League teams. The four-season 'Sox member has pitched the most innings of any player this season, currently sitting at 30 innings on the season. Cash's best outing came against Harrisonburg on June 24th, when he spun a complete game to shut out the Turks over seven complete innings.
Evan Alwine has now made the Valley League All-Star team for consecutive seasons. The righty has spent time in the bullpen and the rotation for Charlottesville this season, but has showcased the pitching prowess that makes him tough to beat at the plate. The Pennsylvania native has tossed 20.1 frames for the 'Sox this year, with seven of them coming in a spectacular outing against Covington, where he struck out seven Lumberjacks before his day was done.
The Valley Baseball League All-Star team will take on a squad of All-Star players from the Cal Ripken league on July 7th at Shirley Povich Field in Potomac, Maryland, at a time to be announced later.
