Tomlin Named VBL South Division Coach of the Year

Charlottesville Tom Sox Head Coach Randy Tomlin was named the 2024 Valley Baseball League South Division Coach of the Year, the league announced Monday (August 12). Tomlin earned the honor after leading the Tom Sox to the league championship and a league-best 26-13 regular season record. 

Six Tom Sox Players Selected to All-Valley League Teams

Six Charlottesville Tom Sox players were selected to the 2024 All-Valley League South Division teams, the league announced Wednesday. Of those six, five were named to the first team, while the 'Sox placed one on the second team.

Game two of the Valley Baseball League Championship between the Purcellville Cannons and Charlottesville Tom Sox has been postponed due to impending inclement weather. It will now be played on Wednesday, July 31, with game three to take place on Thursday, August 1 if it is necessary.

Tom Sox Walk Off Cannons To Take 1-0 Lead in VBL Championship

Sam Mummau hit his first home run of the season in the tenth inning to propel the Charlottesville Tom Sox (29-14) to a 7-5 win over the Purcellville Cannons (28-15) in game one of the VBL Championship series. The ‘Sox came from behind late in the eighth and persevered in front of a loud crowd at Willie T. Barnett Field to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. 

Tom Sox Face Cannons for Valley League Championship

The 1-seed from the South Division, the Charlottesville Tom Sox (28-14) will face the 1-seed from the North Division, the Purcellville Cannons (28-14) in the best-of-three Valley Baseball League championship series. Games one and three (if necessary) will be played at Charlottesville High School, while game two will be held at Historic Fireman’s Field in Purcellville. All three games will begin at 7 p.m.

Tom Sox Set to Begin Playoffs Friday

Following the conclusion of the Valley League regular season, the Charlottesville Tom Sox will enter the playoffs for the seventh-straight season. After clinching the South Division regular season title on July 19 against Covington, the Tom Sox (26-13) will play through the final two rounds as the division’s number one seed.

Included in the day three selections were 2024 ‘Sox outfielder James Nunnallee (UVA incoming freshman), 2023 pitcher Jordan Little (Virginia Tech), 2022 pitcher Wyatt Lunsford-Shenkman (East Carolina), 2022 infielder Christian Martin (Virginia Tech), and 2021 pitcher Chase Centala (UCF).

Former Tom Sox Pitcher Trey Yesavage Selected in First Round of MLB Draft

Former Tom Sox and East Carolina pitcher Trey Yesavage was selected in the first round of the 2024 MLB First-Year Player Draft, as announced on Sunday (July 14). Yesavage, a two-time All-American pitcher out of East Carolina University, was selected with the 20th overall pick by the Toronto Blue Jays.

Seven Tom Sox Set to Participate in VBL All-Star Festivities

Seven Tom Sox players and coaches have been named as part of the Valley Baseball League's annual All-Star festivities, the league announced Monday (June 24). Five Tom Sox players – catcher Robbie Lavey, third baseman Johnnie Lopez, shortstop Ethan Gibson, and pitchers Daniel Powell and Marco Levari – will take part in Sunday's All-Star Game with Head Coach Randy Tomlin managing the South team. Additionally, Tommy Roldan will be the Tom Sox's representative in Saturday's Home Run Derby.

Sunday’s Tom Sox/Braves Game Moved to 7 p.m.

Due to excessive heat projected in the forecast, Sunday’s (June 23) game between the Staunton Braves and Charlottesville Tom Sox has been moved to 7 p.m. The game was initially scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.

Langford Named No. 6 Prospect in Baseball
