Tom Sox Earn Fourth Valley League Title With 9-5 Win over Purcellville

After 249 games across the Valley League over the course of a 70-day summer ball grind, the fight for the Jim Lineweaver Cup came down to nine innings of baseball at Charlottesville High School on Thursday night. In front of an energetic, blue-out crowd, the Charlottesville Tom Sox (30-15) earned the franchise's fourth VBL Championship, knocking off the Purcellville Cannons (29-16) 9-5 in game three of what was a highly-competitive, back-and-forth championship series.

The Charlottesville Tom Sox (29-15) fell to the Purcellville Cannons (29-15) by a 21-8 final on Wednesday night at Fireman’s Field. It was a packed house for the Cannons, who hit two grand slams and scored the most runs ever by a ‘Sox opponent.

Tom Sox Walk Off Cannons To Take 1-0 Lead in VBL Championship

Sam Mummau hit his first home run of the season in the tenth inning to propel the Charlottesville Tom Sox (29-14) to a 7-5 win over the Purcellville Cannons (28-15) in game one of the VBL Championship series. The ‘Sox came from behind late in the eighth and persevered in front of a loud crowd at Willie T. Barnett Field to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. 

Tom Sox Crush Culpeper to Advance to VBL Championship

The Charlottesville Tom Sox (28-14) cruised to a 19-2 win over the Culpeper Cavaliers (22-22) on Sunday night, punching a ticket to their third consecutive VBL championship series and sixth in franchise history. Charlottesville tied the franchise record for most runs scored in a game while securing the mercy rule win over Culpeper in front of a packed, “Green Out” crowd at Willie T. Barnett Field.
