Corbin’s Corner: ‘Sox Cap off Summer with Another Championship

Just over two weeks have passed since the Charlottesville Tom Sox took home their fourth Valley League championship trophy with a 9-5 victory over the Purcellville Cannons in a winner-take-all matchup on August 1. After 15 days of reflection, it’s due time that Corbin’s Corner returned with some observations on Charlottesville’s exhilarating postseason run.

Corbin’s Corner: Reflections from the Halfway Point

The Charlottesville Tom Sox (15-4) went 5-1 in another dominant week of VBL action to maintain their league-best record and expand their South Division lead to 4.5 games over the Harrisonburg Turks (10-8). After a two-game sweep of the Staunton Braves (10-10) on Saturday and Sunday, Charlottesville is riding a three-game win streak into the halfway point of the summer season, and with 19 of 40 ballgames in the books, Corbin’s Corner is back with some midseason reflections.

Belyeu’s Bomb Backs Tom Sox in 9-5 Win

On “Festivus Night” at the ballpark, the Charlottesville Tom Sox (13-4) were the masters of their domain, saying “no soup (or win) for you” to the Harrisonburg Turks (8-8) with a 9-5 victory. The Seinfeld tribute was a hit for the ‘Sox as they defeated the Turks for the first time this season in front of a nice crowd at Willie T. Barnett Field. C’Ville was backed by a Cade Belyeu (Auburn) three-run homer in his return to the lineup that highlighted a six-run bottom of the second.
