Just over two weeks have passed since the Charlottesville Tom Sox took home their fourth Valley League championship trophy with a 9-5 victory over the Purcellville Cannons in a winner-take-all matchup on August 1. After 15 days of reflection, it’s due time that Corbin’s Corner returned with some observations on Charlottesville’s exhilarating postseason run.

Six Tom Sox Players Selected to All-Valley League Teams

Six Charlottesville Tom Sox players were selected to the 2024 All-Valley League South Division teams, the league announced Wednesday. Of those six, five were named to the first team, while the 'Sox placed one on the second team.

Tom Sox Earn Fourth Valley League Title With 9-5 Win over Purcellville

After 249 games across the Valley League over the course of a 70-day summer ball grind, the fight for the Jim Lineweaver Cup came down to nine innings of baseball at Charlottesville High School on Thursday night. In front of an energetic, blue-out crowd, the Charlottesville Tom Sox (30-15) earned the franchise's fourth VBL Championship, knocking off the Purcellville Cannons (29-16) 9-5 in game three of what was a highly-competitive, back-and-forth championship series.

The Charlottesville Tom Sox (27-14) hit two home runs in the first four innings and never looked back, defeating the Culpeper Cavaliers (22-21) on the road 8-1 to force a winner-take-all game three on Sunday.
