POSITION

Head Coach

Corey Hunt served as Head Coach of the Charlottesville Tom Sox from 2017-19. Corey was voted as the 2017 Valley League Manager of the Year in his first year, as he led our team to the league championship and ended the summer with the team being named the #1 team in the nation by Perfect Game! In 2018, he led the team back to the championship for the second-straight season before bringing Charlottesville their second title in 2019.

Corey Hunt served as the head coach at nearby Monticello High School. Hunt also played locally at MHS and the University of Virginia.

Hunt played shortstop for four seasons at Monticello High School from 2003-2006. After helping lead the Mustangs to an appearance in the state semifinals in 2005, Hunt earned the Group AA State Player of the Year award the following spring.

While at the University of Virginia, Hunt batted .337 in 101 career at-bats, which included 27 runs scored and 19 RBIs. In 2011, Hunt scored the winning run of the Charlottesville Super Regional, to send the Cavaliers to the College World Series.

He coached the Monticello Mustangs to the 3A state semifinals in 2015.

“I feel blessed to be able to stay in Charlottesville and give back to this community through baseball, which has given a lot to me,” said Hunt, who will continue as the MHS coach and school registrar. “Baseball in Charlottesville means a lot to me.”

“The game of baseball doesn’t change,” he said. “Whatever level you’re at, the fundamentals stay the same. Coaching it at different levels is going to be a challenge, but I’ll show up to the ball field every day.”

Hunt said Virginia head coach Brian O’Connor and his staff were his inspiration for going into coaching.

“They go about their business every day giving 100 percent,” Hunt said. “That’s what they’ve instilled in me and what I’ve taken from them. I wouldn’t be in this position without guys like that who have showed me.”
