John Maley

Pitching Coach

John Maley enters his first season in Charlottesville as the team’s Pitching Coach.

In Maley’s 25+ years of college coaching, he has produced 11 All-Americans, 26 professional players, including 3 MLB pitchers.

Maley began his college coaching career at Henderson State University, where he was the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator for two seasons. He then spent 14 seasons as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at St. Mary’s University. Following his stint with the Rattlers, he spent one season as the Head Coach at Laredo Community College before taking the pitching coach job at Texas State. Maley then spent 5 years as the recruiting coordinator and pitching coach at The University of Incarnate Word. In 2019, Maley spent time as the Pitching Coach for Schreiner College.

Maley’s credentials run long and wide, leading multiple pitching staffs and pitchers to All- Conference, All-Region and All-American Honors. While at Incarnate Word, Maley had two pitchers toss no-hitters – Nathaniel Ramirez pitched the only perfect game in school history in 2008 then Keith Vasquez tossed a no-hitter in 2009.

During his coaching career at Division II St. Mary’s, Maley’s pitchers recorded nine no-hitters, 22 one-hitters and 214 complete games while breaking virtually every league pitching record. One of the highlights of Maley’s career came in 2001, when the Rattlers won the NCAA Division II National Championship and posted a 50-13 record.

A native of Richeyville, PA, Maley graduated from Texas State in 1986 and then received a master’s degree in education from Henderson State. He has two children, Emily and Kash.
