Robby Swab joins the Tom Sox for his first season as first base coach. Swab comes to the Tom Sox via Averett University, where he completed his second season as an assistant coach. Swab came to Averett from the University of Virginia, where he served as the program’s director of baseball operations for three seasons — including the 2015 season when Virginia won the Division I national championship. Swab’s role included assisting with game day operations and on-campus recruiting.
Prior to Virginia, Swab was a volunteer assistant coach at Division I Gardner-Webb University, where he worked with coaches and hitters while serving as the first base coach. His coaching experience also includes time as an assistant coach with the Kernersville Post 36 American Legion baseball team and time as a baseball instructor at various camps.
Swab played collegiately, including his final two seasons at Division I Presbyterian College. A catcher, Swab played 81 career games with a .298 batting average for the Blue Hose. He began his college career at Young Harris Junior College, where he played two seasons before transferring to Presbyterian.
A native of Kernersville, North Carolina, Swab earned his bachelor’s degree from Presbyterian while double-majoring in business administration and history.
