  • The Tom Sox will play their first home game in over a week, facing the red-hot Braves.

  • It is UVA sports night at Charlottesville High School.

  • The ‘Sox fell to the Braves on Monday, their first loss since July 2. It snapped a 7-game win streak.

  • The Tom Sox are 7-3 in July and have four hitters batting over .300.

  • Charlottesville placed seven players on the VBL All-Star team on Monday, the second-most in the VBL.

  • Cole Wagner is on a 20-game on-base streak, tied for the sixth-longest on-base streak in Tom Sox history.

  • Trey Yesavage will make his third start of the season (4th appearance) and first since the 17-4 win over Waynesboro on July 4.

  • The Tom Sox offense has exploded over the last six games, scoring 58 runs. That’s good for just under 10 runs per game. 

  • 45 of those have come in the stretch from July 4-8, the latter in Staunton.

  • Charlottesville just snapped a 7-game win streak with Monday’s loss. Over the streak, they batted .332 with 68 hits, 17 doubles, five home runs, and 49 walks to 43 strikeouts.

  • 33 runs in back-to-back games (7/4 & 7/5) was the most in team history.

  • 16 runs on July 5 was the second-largest margin of victory in a single game in Tom Sox history. The 17 runs scored on Monday were tied for the most ever at Charlottesville High School.

  • The ‘Sox and Braves will meet for the seventh time in eight meetings this season. The final meeting will be July 20 in Staunton.

  • The season series is tied 3-3.

  • Satchell Norman leads the ‘Sox on the season against Staunton with a .444 average (8-for-18) and three doubles.

  • The Tom Sox and Braves have alternated wins and losses over the last six meetings.

  • Charlottesville has scored double-digit runs in each of their last four wins against Staunton.

  • There has never been a shutout by either team in 48 all-time meetings.

 

HEY NOW, YOU’RE AN ALL-STAR

  • Seven Tom Sox players were named Valley League All-Stars on Monday.

  • Three pitchers and four position players were named to the squad.

  • ‘Sox closers Jack Billings and Tyler McLoughlin plus fellow righty Drew Bryan were the team’s three pitchers. Entering Monday’s game, the three combined for a 1.13 ERA in 32 combined innings, with four wins and five saves.

  • The four hitters named to the team were outfielder Carter Cunningham, infielder/outfielder Christian Martin, catcher/DH Satchell Norman, and first baseman Cole Wagner. The four were key to the ‘Sox’s 7-game win streak; combining for a .493 batting average, ten doubles, three homers, and 17 walks over the span. They totaled 27 of the team’s 56 RBI over the seven games (48%) and scored 27 of their 61 runs (44%).

  • Two ‘Sox players were named alternates – shortstop Kyle Edwards and righty Wyatt Lunsford-Shenkman.

  • The seven selections are the second-most in the VBL (Waynesboro, 9) and second-most in Tom Sox history (2017, 9).

  • The All-Star Game will take place at 7 P.M. Sunday in Front Royal.

 

DEFENSIVE PROWESS

  • The Tom Sox have been one of the top defensive teams in the Valley League this summer.

  • Charlottesville’s .973 fielding percentage and 27 errors both lead the Valley League.

  • The ‘Sox have committed only five errors over their last ten games (three have come in the last three).

  • Kyle Edwards, Charlottesville’s starting shortstop, has only one error, as does infielder Gavin Abrams, who’s started 21 of 29 games.
