Charlottesville Tom Sox Announce 2022 Schedule, Free Admission Returns

The 2-time Valley Baseball League champion Charlottesville Tom Sox announced their 2022 schedule on Tuesday, January 18. The format of the 2022 schedule is similar to 2021, with an increased number of in-division games and doubleheaders against North division opponents.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The 2-time Valley Baseball League champion Charlottesville Tom Sox announced their 2022 schedule on Tuesday, January 18. The format of the 2022 schedule is similar to 2021, with an increased number of in-division games and doubleheaders against North division opponents. 

The Tom Sox will play 21 games at Crutchfield Park and 21 on the road. In 2022, home games will once again feature FREE admission and parking courtesy of Carter Bank & Trust. 

 

The 2022 schedule features 42 games, with 30 being played against South division opponents (Covington, Harrisonburg, Staunton, Waynesboro) and the remaining 12 in doubleheaders against North Division opponents (Front Royal, New Market, Purcellville, Strasburg, Woodstock, Winchester). Home games against division opponents will begin at 7 PM ET, while home doubleheaders will begin at 4 PM ET. Road start times will vary based on opponent.

 

The Tom Sox begin their season in Harrisonburg to face the Turks. Charlottesville will open their season in Harrisonburg for the second time in the last three seasons and will start on the road for the fifth time in seven seasons.

 

The Tom Sox will face the reigning Valley Baseball League champion Strasburg Express in a road doubleheader on Sunday, June 26. Together, the Tom Sox and Express have combined to win 5 of the last 7 VBL championships, with the Tom Sox defeating the Express in the championship series in both 2017 & 2019. Since Strasburg entered the league in 2013, the teams have combined for nine championship appearances.

 

The Tom Sox will play 30 games against in-division opponents, facing the Turks and Braves eight times apiece and the Lumberjacks and Generals seven each. Charlottesville will face Harrisonburg and Staunton four times at home and four on the road, while traveling to Covington four times and Waynesboro three. 

 

In keeping with tradition, the Tom Sox will host the Generals on the Fourth of July at a special start time of 6 PM. More information on activities surrounding the Fourth of July is upcoming.

 

The Valley League All-Star Game will happen again in 2022, this year taking place on July 17. Further details on the All-Star Game will be announced closer to the event.

 

Charlottesville will close their 2022 schedule on the road against Covington on July 23, with the VBL Playoffs beginning shortly after.
