Randy Tomlin & Scott Stricklin Headline Charlottesville Tom Sox Coaching Staff

The Charlottesville Tom Sox announced today the hirings of former major leaguer Randy Tomlin, Georgia/Kent State head coach Scott Stricklin, Virginia Cavalier Kenny Towns, and current Mary Washington assistant Adam Dofflemyer as the team’s 2024 coaching staff. This announcement gives the Tom Sox one of the most experienced and high-level coaching staffs in all of collegiate summer baseball. Tomlin will serve as Head Coach, while Stricklin, Towns, and Dofflemyer will all serve as assistants.

Wyatt Langford Makes Rangers Opening Day Roster

It was only a matter of time, but the future is now. Texas Rangers Manager Bruce Bochy announced Friday that former Tom Sox star Wyatt Langford, the fourth overall pick in the 2023 MLB draft, will begin his season on the Major League roster for the defending World Series champions.

Tom Sox to Hold Charity Golf Tournament on May 20

The Tom Sox are announcing their third annual Charity Golf Tournament, to be held on Monday, May 20 at Spring Creek Golf Club. Featuring a captain’s choice format, the Tom Sox invite foursomes and individual players for a 9 AM start (7:30 AM registration) at one of Golf Digest’s Top 100 American Public Golf Courses. The event joins the Poker Tournament (March 23 at Elks Lodge) as one of two primary fundraisers for the 2024 summer season.

Six Tom Sox Taking Part in 2024 Spring Training

Six former Tom Sox players are taking part in Major League Baseball’s Spring Training, being held across Florida and Arizona from February 22-March 26. The six players include four players who appeared on Major League rosters during the 2023 campaign, while two additional ‘Sox will appear as non-roster invitees for their respective clubs.

The Charlottesville Tom Sox announced their second annual Poker Tournament, to be held on March 23. The event will be held at the Elks Lodge (389 Elk Dr, Charlottesville, VA 22911) for the second-straight year, and will feature traditional poker alongside a silent auction.

Langford Named No. 6 Prospect in Baseball

2021 Tom Sox standout Wyatt Langford was named the No. 6 overall prospect in baseball by MLB Pipeline, as revealed in an MLB Network special on January 26. Langford arrived in Charlottesville as a relative unknown in 2021 – taking only four at-bats in his freshman season at Florida – and became one of the nation’s best hitters following his summer in the Valley.

Tom Sox Open Camp Registrations for 2024 Summer

The Charlottesville Tom Sox announced dates for their 2024 summer camps. The popular summer camps make their return for three separate sessions in 2024, where kids ages 6-12 can get instruction from the Tom Sox's roster of elite coaches and players.

Former Tom Sox Pitcher Kyle Nicolas Called Up by Pirates

Former Tom Sox pitcher Kyle Nicolas’s contract was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates today, September 19. Nicolas’s callup is the Tom Sox’s third in the last month, joining 2018 teammate Evan Justice and 2017 two-way star Carson Spiers.

Carson Spiers Makes MLB Debut

Former Tom Sox pitcher/infielder and Clemson Tiger Carson Spiers made his MLB debut on Sunday for the Cincinnati Reds, starting on the mound against the Cubs. Spiers is the third former ‘Sox player to make his MLB debut, in the second player in two weeks.

Tom Sox Alumnus Evan Justice Called Up to Colorado Rockies

The Colorado Rockies announced that former Tom Sox lefty Evan Justice has been called up to the Major League club. Justice is the second former Tom Sox player to make it to the major leagues following Vinnie Pasquantino last season.

VBL Championship Game 1 Start Time Moved to 8 p.m.

Due to field conditions caused by inclement weather, tonight’s VBL Championship game one between the Tom Sox and Turks will now begin at 8 p.m.

Perkins Highlights List of Five Tom Sox Players Selected for VBL Awards

Tonight’s Tom Sox/Cardinals first round playoff game has been suspended due to a pop-up rainstorm. It will be resumed Saturday (July 29) at 7 PM in Front Royal in the top of the second with the Tom Sox leading 1-0.

Tom Sox/Royals First Pitch Moved to 1 P.M.

Due to an issue with the lights at Bridgeforth Stadium in Winchester, first pitch for today’s doubleheader has been moved up to 1 P.M. The second game will begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.

Five Tom Sox Players Named Valley League All-Stars

Five Tom Sox players were named all-stars by the Valley League on Wednesday (June 21). Mike Eggert (Wofford), Mark Perkins (Rice), Kyle Edwards (Old Dominion), Brice Martinez (Wofford), and Kalvin Alexander (Georgia Southwestern) will all suit up for the South team on Sunday in Front Royal.

Seven Tom Sox players were named 2022 Valley League All-Stars, as voted on by the league’s 11 head coaches on Monday (July 11). Named to the team were RHP Jack Billings, RHP Drew Bryan, Outfielder Carter Cunningham, Infielder/Outfielder Christian Martin, RHP Tyler McLoughlin, Catcher/DH Satchell Norman, and First Baseman Cole Wagner.

Vinnie Pasquantino Called Up to Kansas City Royals

Vinnie Pasquantino, one of the best players ever to play in Charlottesville, a 2017 VBL Champion, and the Royals’ number four overall prospect, was called up to the Kansas City Royals today (June 27). Pasquantino becomes the first Tom Sox player and 249th player in Valley League history to make it to MLB.

Due to the condition of the field following this morning’s storms, today’s doubleheader against New Market has been postponed. The doubleheader will be made up on Tuesday, June 28 at 4 P.M.

July 14 & 17 Games vs Covington Canceled

Due to a COVID-19 case and subsequent contact tracing within the Covington Lumberjacks program, the July 14 & 17 games against the Lumberjacks have been canceled. The remained of Covington’s season has been canceled and the games will not be made up.

The Charlottesville Tom Sox are proud to announce that two-time Super Bowl champion and Charlottesville legend Chris Long will throw out the first pitch on June 16 against the Waynesboro Generals. A man who needs little introduction in C’Ville, Long is a former St. Anne’s-Belfield Saint, Virginia Cavalier, and a two-time Super Bowl champion with the Patriots & Eagles. 

Tom Sox Welcome Seth Dvorak as Assistant Coach

The Tom Sox are excited to announce that Seth Dvorak will join the team as an assistant coach for the 2021 season. Seth Dvorak joins the Tom Sox after serving the past three seasons as the Graduate Assistant at North Park University (Elmhurst, Ill.).

Charlottesville Tom Sox & Crutchfield Announce 3-Year Stadium Naming Rights Deal

The Charlottesville Tom Sox organization (Charlottesville Community Baseball, Inc.) and long-time partner Crutchfield Corporation are announcing today (May 11, 2021) that they have signed a three-year naming rights deal for the ballpark at Charlottesville High School. The park will now officially be known as Crutchfield Park, home of the Charlottesville Tom Sox.

Due to health & safety circumstances brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, the schedule features a new format that reduces travel for teams; which includes doubleheaders against North division teams and six added South division games. Season Passes Now On Sale for Inaugural Season of Tom Sox Baseball!

The Charlottesville Tom Sox have announced a creative admission policy that combines parking and admission for its 2015 season.  Payment of $10 upon entering the park will cover parking and admission for as many as may legally ride in the car.

Charlottesville Joins the Valley League in 2015

Charlottesville Community Baseball, Inc. announced today the Charlottesville team that will begin play in the Valley League in 2015 will be known as the “Tom Sox.”  Tom Sox was chosen after the public participated in a team naming contest.  From nearly a thousand posts on social media and 266 separate name submissions, the field was narrowed to four names.  Tom Sox was chosen over Presidents, Sabres, and Vines.
