Five Tom Sox, Head Coach Kory Koehler Named All-Stars

Five Tom Sox players and Head Coach Kory Koehler were named Valley League All-Stars on Monday.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Five Tom Sox players and Head Coach Kory Koehler were named Valley League All-Stars on Monday.

Charlottesville’s group includes:

  • 1B Wyatt Langford – Florida (.338 BA, .932 OPS, 7 XBH, 12 RBI, 5 SB)

  • SS Cole Foster – Auburn (.229 BA, .625 OPS, 8 XBH, 17 R, 8 SB)

  • RHP Christian Worley – Virginia Tech (1-0, 1.80 ERA, .159 opp. BA, 20.0 IP, 25 K)

  • RHP Brady Kirtner – Virginia Tech (2-0, 1.35 ERA, .109 opp. BA, 20.0 IP, 28 K)

  • RHP Dillon Janac – Rice (2-1, 3.60 ERA, .141 opp. BA, 20.0 IP, 26 K)

 

Additionally, Head Coach Kory Koehler will manage the South Division’s All-Star team, courtesy of the Tom Sox leading the division standings through last night’s games. Koehler has led Charlottesville to a 19-7 record in 26 games, which is tied for the league lead (Woodstock).

 

Charlottesville’s five all-stars are tied with the 2019 team for the second-most in team history (2017, 8). Kory Koehler becomes the second Tom Sox Head Coach to manage the South Division squad, after Corey Hunt had the honors in 2017. The ‘Sox’s three pitchers selected are tied for the most in team history.

 

The 2021 Valley League All-Star Game will be held on Sunday, July 11 at James Madison University’s Veterans Memorial Park.

 

The North squad is comprised of players from Front Royal, New Market, Purcellville, Strasburg, Winchester and Woodstock. The South squad consists of athletes from Charlottesville, Covington, Harrisonburg, Staunton and Waynesboro. Each squad initially included ten pitchers and sixteen position players.

 

The North team will be managed by Woodstock’s Mike Bocock and the South by Charlotteville’s Kory Koehler. Managers of the rosters were determined by the leading teams in the standings at the conclusion of games through Sunday, July 4.

 

Batting practice and autograph/photo sessions for young fans will take place from 3:10-4:45 p.m. The 60 yard dash contest and Home Run Derby will be held between 4:50 p.m. and 7 p.m. Player introductions will be at 7:15 p.m. with first pitch set for 7:30 p.m.

 

The evening will also feature the fifth class of the Valley Baseball League Hall of Fame, which will be introduced at 7:00 p.m.

Wyatt Langford Makes Rangers Opening Day Roster

It was only a matter of time, but the future is now. Texas Rangers Manager Bruce Bochy announced Friday that former Tom Sox star Wyatt Langford, the fourth overall pick in the 2023 MLB draft, will begin his season on the Major League roster for the defending World Series champions.
