CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The reigning Valley Baseball League champion Charlottesville Tom Sox are proud to announce that Central Virginia native Chris Madison will serve as an Assistant Coach for the 2020 season.
Chris began his career as a pitcher for local Western Albemarle High School, where he threw three no-hitters for the Warriors. During his time at WAHS, he was coached by long-time head coach Skip Hudgins.
Madison began his collegiate career at Ferrum from 2010-12, appearing in 10 games as a reliever over two seasons. He then transferred to Southern Virginia, where he was among the team leaders in ERA his junior year. During his time at Southern Virginia, Madison pitched for the Elkton Blue Sox of the Rockingham County Baseball League over the summer, where he was a three-time all-star.
Madison began his coaching career in 2015, serving as Southern Virginia’s pitching coach for his senior season and earning his bachelor’s degree in family & child development. He returned to his alma mater in 2016, serving as an assistant coach at Western Albemarle from 2016-18.
Chris was named The Covenant School’s Head Coach in 2018, succeeding current Tom Sox Director of Recruiting Jeff Burton. During the 2018 season, the Eagles advanced to the VIC Championship Game before falling to Miller.
Following his stint at Covenant, Madison was named Pitching Coach and Director of Recruiting at Lakeland University in Plymouth, Wisconsin. In his first season as pitching coach, the Muskies had the lowest team ERA since 2014. In addition to coaching at Lakeland, Madison is pursuing a second undergraduate degree in business, where he will soon begin his MBA.
Chris currently resides in Sheboygan, Wisconsin with his wife, CJ.
Madison joins Head Coach Kory Koehler, Bench Coach James Kirk, and Pitching Coach John Maley on the 2020 staff. The Charlottesville Tom Sox are incredibly excited to have Chris Madison join us as an Assistant Coach for the 2020 season!
