CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Five Tom Sox players, along with Head Coach Randy Tomlin, were named to the Valley League’s South Division Roster for the 2024 NACSB Prospect Games at Liberty University. Selected players from the Tom Sox are outfielder Cade Belyeu (So., Auburn, Ala./Auburn), first baseman Colby Wallace (So., Biscoe, N.C./East Carolina), and righties Daniel Powell (So., Roswell, Ga./Kennesaw State), Ethan Sutton (So., Cartersville, Ga./Georgia), and Ryan Grzesiak (Jr., Chantilly, Va./Florida Southwestern). Additionally, Head Coach Randy Tomlin, who calls Lynchburg home, will help coach the South team.
Belyeu, who was named the first VBL South Player of the Week last week, has been the league’s top slugger through the first 2+ weeks. Entering games on June 18, Belyeu leads the league in slugging percentage (1.087) and OPS (1.666). He is the only VBL player with a slugging percentage over .800. Additionally, he ranks second in batting average (.435), home runs (4), RBI (15), and hit-by-pitches (8). Belyeu was named an SEC All-Freshman selection this spring after batting .284 with eight home runs.
Wallace has come on strong in his first few games in Charlottesville following East Carolina’s run in the 2024 NCAA Tournament. Across his first four games (three starts), Wallace has gone 4-for-13 (.308) with a double, three runs, and four RBI. He has collected an RBI in all three of his starts. Wallace appeared on both sides for the Pirates on the season, making five appearances out of the bullpen in addition to 69 at-bats. He hit .250 with 15 runs scored and six RBI. Prior to the season, Perfect Game named him their No. 6 prospect in The American for the 2026 MLB Draft.
Powell has been nails out of the bullpen for the Tom Sox so far this season, stranding four inherited runners across his first four appearances. He has not allowed an earned run in seven innings, striking out six with a win and a save. Powell made 16 appearances for the Owls on the season, finishing with a 10.47 ERA.
Sutton has also made an instant impact on the mound for the ‘Sox, working to a 1.00 ERA across his first nine innings. He was named Valley League Pitcher of the Week on Monday (June 18) after a pair of appearances in which he allowed one earned run and struck out nine. Sutton pitched 2.2 innings for Georgia on the season, allowing one earned run and striking out a pair.
Like Powell, Grzesiak has found his way out of the bullpen thus far. Across his first three appearances (4.1 innings), Grzesiak has not allowed a hit or an earned run and has struck out six. He earned his first save of the season in a 2.1-inning, four-strikeout appearance against Covington on June 11. Grzesiak pitched in 16 games in his first season for the Florida Southwestern (JUCO) Bucs in 2024, finishing with a 4.26 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 25.1 innings.
Finally, Head Coach Randy Tomlin will join Staunton’s Brady Bogart and Covington’s Jacob Walker as coaches for the South team on Monday. Worthington Field at Liberty Baseball Stadium, home of the games, is no stranger to Tomlin – he coaches at Liberty Christian Academy, which is a short walk from Liberty University.
The South Team will face prospects from the New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL) on Monday, June 24 at 2 p.m.
