CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Charlottesville Tom Sox announced on Thursday (Nov. 14) that San Jacinto Assistant Coach James Kirk will serve as the team’s bench & first assistant coach for the 2020 season.
Kirk is in his third season with the San Jacinto College baseball coaching staff. Prior to joining the Gators program, Kirk was an assistant at Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas, where he coached the infielders and outfielders. In 2017, Navarro College was runner-up in conference play, advancing to the regional championship game and finishing second to San Jacinto.
In his 5 years of college baseball, Kirk has coached 33 D-I players and two All-Americans.
Prior to coaching at Navarro, Kirk was the head coach for powerhouse St. Pius X High School in Houston, winning 2 state championships, 4 regional championships, and 5 district championships. Kirk coached and developed 12 Division I players and 10 JUCO players during his time with the Panthers, including multiple current MLB players. Kirk coached Under Armour All-American Kohl Stewart to the 4th overall draft pick as well as current Anaheim Angel Justin Anderson.
A Houston native, James and his wife Wanda of 38 years have a daughter, Jessica, and son, Kyle, who played D-I baseball at the University of Arkansas – Little Rock.
