CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The three-time Valley Baseball League Champion Charlottesville Tom Sox announced today (November 5) their schedule for the 2024 summer, as well as an early sale on 2024 season tickets.
The 2024 schedule features an all-new format that exclusively features games against intra-division opponents (Covington, Culpeper, Harrisonburg, Staunton, and Waynesboro). Charlottesville will face each team eight times, four at home and four on the road. Additionally, the schedule has been condensed from 44 games in 2023 to 40 in 2024 with the goal of reducing travel costs, adding off/rest days for players, and increasing flexibility for inclement weather.
The Tom Sox will open their season on May 31 on the road against the Staunton Braves, the second time in team history (2019) that the ‘Sox will begin their summer in May. They follow the season opener with the home opener on June 1 against the Culpeper Cavaliers. All weekday and Saturday home games will begin at 7 PM, with Sunday times to be announced soon.
The ‘Sox will play their first of eight against the reigning VBL Champion Harrisonburg Turks on June 4 at Veterans Memorial Park. Charlottesville made their fifth all-time championship appearance in 2023 against the Turks, falling 0-2 in the championship series.
The first multi-day break in the ’24 schedule will come on June 24 and 25, when select players from all 12 of the VBL’s teams will travel south to Liberty University to take part in the NACSB Prospect Showcase for the second-straight year. The prospect games are designed to bring the top 25-30 pro prospects from each of the NACSB’s leagues (currently, 8 of 12 leagues participate) to one location and provide them the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of MLB scouts. The Tom Sox sent six players to last year’s showcase.
The next break will come less than a week later on June 29 and 30, when the Valley League will hold their annual all-star game. For the first time, all-star festivities will encompass the entire weekend, with Purcellville’s Fireman’s Field playing host to a home run derby, Hall of Fame inductions, music, activities, and much more in addition to the traditional North-vs-South game. More information will be announced in the coming months.
The regular season concludes on July 23, when the Tom Sox will host the Turks. Following the regular season, the new playoff format in the VBL will take place – a one-game wild card playoff between the no. 2 and 3 seeds in each division, followed by three-game division championship and league championship series. The Tom Sox have appeared in the playoffs in six-straight seasons, making trips to the championship in all but one of them and bringing home three titles.
In addition to the excitement of the 2024 schedule, the Tom Sox are offering an early sale on season tickets for the summer. Tickets will be sold individually in 2024, with season passes offering a significant discount over single-game gate prices and an even larger discount available until the spring. Early season tickets will be sold for $100 individually, with a pair available for $175 and a “family pass” of four available for $240. Groups of five or more who wish to purchase a larger amount can contact the Tom Sox at [email protected] for group information. Season tickets will be transferrable; however, every individual entering the ballpark must have their own ticket. Fans can purchase a season ticket by visiting tomsox.com/season-tickets.
